350 E Locust House
Date
2014
Location
Des Moines, Iowa
Located in 350 East Locust in Des Moines’ East Village, this new mixed use housing facility designed by Peter P. Goché (Goché inclusions llc) and executed by Neumann Monson Architects. Conceived of as a machined mass of clay and steel (Corten), the building block re-establishes the historic street wall and thus restores the socio-political engagement of urban life. Within, a serial set of spatial configurations provides a range of affordable housing, ground level retail and a penthouse office suite – each replete with a cultural aperture whereby one might be seen or unseen as a dimension of the public. Completed date: 2014, Project Owner: Tim Rypma, Contractor: Graham Construction, Photographer: Cameron Campbell
